Journal 1- Birthdays and Other Celebrations During Quarantine

Hey everyone! I'm going to be starting a journal about the corona virus and my thoughts and feelings about it and what I've been doing. For this journal entry, I'm going to be talking about people celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and other celebrations during quarantine.

My cousin's 17th birthday was yesterday and we had a parade for him. Some of my family, a couple of his friends, and his girlfriend all drove by his house and honked their horns. My grandma made signs that a few of us held out of our windows that said "Happy Birthday!" and we yelled out of our windows at him to say happy birthday since we couldn't say it up close because of the "6 feet apart" rule. Here's a video of the parade:

My aunt and uncle are going to have their 30th wedding anniversary soon and were going to go on a trip to Mexico, but they had to cancel it because you're not supposed to travel. My friend also had a trip to Florida booked, but she had to postpone it until November.

I think it probably sucks quite a bit for people that have celebrations during this time, because they don't get to go out and celebrate with their family and friends, or even on their own, because we're supposed to stay home. I'm glad I don't have my birthday now, and I hope very much so that quarantine will be over by my birthday because it's in September.

I've seen pictures of people having signs and sometimes balloons out front of their houses saying it's their birthday or "Honk it's my birthday". In fact, a little boy down the road from me was celebrating his birthday yesterday too and had a sign and some balloons. I've also seen videos of people celebrating on a zoom call (a video call) and blowing out their candles with a hair dryer because they had a face mask on (as a joke), and my cousin and his wife did a baby gender reveal on a zoom call with their families (it's a boy!). Here's a link to a video of a guy blowing out his candles with a hair dryer:
